Timothy welcomes enquiries about research supervision. He can supervise research on 20th-century French continental philosophy; Psychoanalysis; Phenomenology; Structuralism; Deconstruction; Philosophy of death and mourning; Kant and German Idealism; Philosophical atheism; Levinasian ethics; Cinematic theory; Marxism.

Dr Timothy Secret is Senior Lecturer in Philosophy and Religion. He studied Philosophy at Kings College London before undertaking an MA in European Thought at University College London, followed by a second MA and PhD in Philosophy at the University of Essex. Timothy has previously held a research and teaching position at the University of Essex.

Timothy's philosophical work has focussed on contemporary continental philosophy and its relation to the arts, technology and the sciences, with a particular focus on psychoanalysis. He is also particularly interested in contemporary approaches to ethics, political theory and film. His recent book, The politics and pedagogy of mourning: on responsibility in eulogy (Bloomsbury, 2014) focusses on the accounts of death, mourning and eulogy in twentieth-century thought, particularly in Heidegger, Levinas, Freud and Derrida. He is currently working on a manuscript on ethics, film and the gaze.

Timothy was one of ten awarded the status of AHRC and BBC Radio 3 New Generation Thinkers 2012. Since then he has appeared on national radio several times, engaged in film work with BBC Arts Scotland and made appearances at several major public philosophy events.
