Biography
Ritsuko is Senior Lecturer in Sociology. She joined the Univerity in August 2017. She has a DPhil in Sociology from the University of Sussex, and an MA in Social History from the University of Essex. Prior to coming to Winchester, she worked at the University of Sussex, Imperial College London, and Policy Studies Institute. She is also Research Fellow at the University of Tokyo, Japan.
Her research is in the areas of: Social and Environmental Sustainability; Housing and Urban Built Environments; and Consumption and Lifestyles. Her teaching subjects reflect her expertise in these areas.
Higher Education Teaching Qualification: Higher Education Academy Fellowship (FHEA).
Research interests
I work in areas of: social and environmental sustainability; consumption and lifestyles; and urban built environments. My current research investigates urban mobilities in post-carbon ageing societies, and energy poverty and energy transitions in southeast Asia.
With my background in housing studies, I have worked closely with social housing associations for many years. Research includes: adaptable homes for those with disability/chronic conditions and older people; domestic energy-saving technology; and meaning of homes.
My theoretical background is in Consumption Studies and my research has been on user perspectives of consumption and lifestyles.
