Biography

Dr Katherine Cook is a Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy, currently the Physiotherapy Programme Lead and Deputy Head of Department (Allied Health Professions) at the University of Winchester. A Chartered Physiotherapist with a background in clinical practice, research, and education, she is passionate about helping students become confident, capable healthcare professionals.

Katherine plays a key role in shaping and delivering Allied Health programmes at Winchester, supporting staff, developing curriculum, and enhancing the overall student experience. She has led a number of initiatives that have significantly improved student satisfaction and outcomes, with Physiotherapy scores rising strongly in recent years and graduates consistently moving into high-skilled roles. She is particularly focused on making learning engaging, inclusive, and relevant to real-world practice.

She has a strong interest in using new technologies to improve both education and healthcare. Katherine has been at the forefront of introducing simulation, telehealth, and digital tools into teaching, helping students develop the skills they need for modern clinical practice. Alongside this, she is involved in research exploring digital health and artificial intelligence in physiotherapy, working with NHS partners and industry to evaluate new ways of delivering care.

Katherine is also committed to supporting the wider professional community. She supervises postgraduate, doctoral students, and NIHR interns, contributes to national and international events, and works closely with healthcare partners to strengthen links between education and practice.

Overall, her work is driven by a desire to make a meaningful difference—for students, for colleagues, and for the future of healthcare.
