Biography

Dr Judith Heneghan is Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing, a novelist and the former Director of the Winchester Writers' Festival.
 
She has been teaching Creative Writing at the University of Winchester since 2006, where, for ten years, she was programme leader for the MA Writing for Children and Young Adults and, most recently, the MA Creative Writing (up to August 2019). She was awarded her Doctor of Creative Arts (Creative Writing) in 2018. She has written many books for children, including Stonecipher (Anderson Press, 2005) and around 60 nonfiction and educational titles, as well as an illustrated children's book called Diver Bill about the diver William Walker under the name Judith Anderson, illustrated by Tony Kenyon (Matador, 2018). In 2013 she won the School Library Association Children's Choice Award for Love Your Hamster. Other nonfiction writing includes the independently published This Is My Home Now in association with SWVG and funded by an Arts Council grant, and a regular column for the Hampshire Chronicle newspaper until 2013. Her first novel for adults, Snegurochka (Salt, 2019), is set in Kiev in 1992. She is currently researching a second novel for adults set in upstate New York.
