Personal profile
Biography
I am Senior Lecturer in Psychology. I hold a BSc Psychology (Hons), an MSc Research Methods in Psychology and a PhD Psychology from Swansea University. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Research interests
My primary research interests are in the field of social influences and outcomes on mental health and wellbeing. This includes topics covering the measurement of personality characteristics related to disorders such as schizophrenia, OCD, depression, social isolation and anxiety, and how the interplay between these factors can lead to and maintain poor wellbeing and negative life experiences. I am also interested in methodological and statistical issues in these areas, such as how to measure concepts like loneliness, and how these issues contribute to the understanding of science and barriers to research and community participation.
Supervision of research students
I welcome enquiries about research supervision; my areas of supervision are: the effects of non-clinical personality traits on behaviour and social functioning, the relationship between social connectedness and wellbeing, and applied research methods such as how psychological constructs are measured.
