Gary Jones

My interests centre upon social welfare, from a socio-legal perspective. I am currently researching the notion of fatherhood amongst prisoners. In addition, I am undertaking a cross-sectional study into anti-social behaviour amongst Higher-Education students.

​I am Senior Lecturer in Sociology and Head of the Department of Applied Social Sciences, Forensics and Politics (formerly Society and Politics). During my time as a PhD student at the University of Lancaster, I was the tutor for a number of seminar classes. Along with a colleague, I also ran a short research methods course and taught older people about research methods for a study.

Within a year of starting at Winchester, I took on the role and responsibilities of programme leader of the BSc Social Care Studies. After an 18-month period as Acting Head of the Department of Health and Social Care, I took on the sole responsibility for devising, developing and implementing a BA Sociology programme, which was launched in 2010. In the same year I finished a Master's of Business Administration (with Distinction). The dissertation from the MBA led to a published peer-reviewed article.
