Emma Till

Emma’s main research interests are geography education, teacher identity and phenomenology.

She was awarded her PhD in March 2018. Her thesis was titled ‘Being a geographer: Towards an understanding of Primary Teachers’ Constructs of Subject Specific Identity.’

Emma joined the University in 2008, having previously worked as a classroom teacher and senior leader in a range of primary schools across South-East England and also in South-East Asia. Emma was awarded Senior Fellowship of the HEA in May 2015. She teaches and coordinates Professional Studies and Geography across undergraduate and postgraduate initial teacher education programmes. 

Emma has worked as a member of the UK Sub-Committee of the International Geographical Union and Commission for Geographical Education and the Geogrphy Education Research Collective (GEReCO) to promote geography education both across the UK and also internationally.

Additionally, Emma is Head of Quality for the Faculty of Education and works with AQD training colleagues aspiring to work on internal revalidation events and also as external examiners.
