Description

It seems we take the meaning of peace for granted. In almost every faith peace receives much prominence. However, do we have a common understanding of what peace is? Is it a destination we arrive at or is it the journey itself? Is it the natural steady state from which perturbations ‘temporarily’ deviate us to a state of discord or is it in a different dimension? Can we break it down to elements and can we measure them? Should we measure them? Is it a qualitative aspect that can only be experienced and not measured?
This workshop aims to explore this theme of ‘what is peace’ from different faiths and disciplines taking advantage of an opportunity presented by the visit of distinguished Hindu monk and vedic scholar HH Chinna Jeeyar Swamy who had set up the Jeeyar Integrated Vedic Academy and also the Statue of Equality in Hyderabad, India.
We shall also have: Eduardo Gutierrez Gonzalez from Blackfriars; Mark Owen from the University of Winchester; Rabbi Dr Jonathan Romain from Maidenhead Shul; Simon Fisher from the Quakers; and Tom Woodhouse from PSID, University of Bradford.
