Unlocking Modern History in the Hampshire Archives

In this webinar, two leading members of the Modern History Research Centre (MHRC) at the University of Winchester offered tips and ideas on how to make the most from researching the Hampshire Archives to discover hidden stories and specific material from the sixteenth century to recent years. The speakers started by sharing some of their experiences in finding sources relating to the entanglement of Hampshire with the global Hispanic world and the settlement of refugees in and around Winchester since 1800. This was an interactive session so participants were invited to pose questions relating to their own research projects in Modern History.

Dr Graciela Iglesias-Rogers is Senior Lecturer in Modern European and Global Hispanic History at the University of Winchester, convenor of the Modern History Research Centre (MHRC) and lead researcher of the AHRC-funded international research network 'The Hispanic Anglosphere: Transnational networks and global communities (18th - 20th centuries)' in partnership with The National Trust Tyntesfield and the Centre of American Studies at the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez in Chile.
Dr Emily Stiles is Lecturer in Modern History at the University of Winchester and member of the Modern History Research Centre (MHRC). Her research focuses on the Holocaust, Jewish history, and cultural memories of war, conflict and forced migration. She is currently working on a project about “Objects of Sanctuary” in relation to the status of Winchester as a city of sanctuary.
