The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: Experiences teaching Secure Systems and Digital Forensics

  • Adriana Wilde (Speaker)

Activity: Talk or presentation typesInvited talk

Description

Rationale: To teach cyber security encouraging real-world practices and up-to-date (co-created/collated) knowledge.
Specific practices: Students using PeerWise to create questions on topics covered in lectures and EnCase to practice work skills on digital forensics
Findings: It works best when the use of the tool is relevant to students’ needs. It is less effective if the institution doesn’t support it (e.g. too much red tape or too little technician time), and the assessment is not well-aligned with it.
