Alternative spaces of failure. Disabled ‘bad boys’ in alternative further education provision
Embedded within the vision of secondary education across England are the values of contributing to knowledge across disciplines and sharing the results of research with local and global communities. Spurred by the need to make education accessible to all, alternative provision has gained ground as the rate of exclusion has grown to enable different learning pathways. However, while the notion of "alternative" in education has been growing, the outcomes of those -disproportionately disabled and disadvantaged students - accessing alternative forms of education has remained poor. The discussion will share the benefits of open access as a way to further open spaces of critical debate about alternative provisions as an appropriate means to confer value upon young disabled students
