Description

The Colombian Truth Commission was created as part of the 2016 peace agreement with the marxist-leninist Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) guerrilla group. The Commission was officially launched in October 2018, under the presidency of Iván Duque, a staunchest opponent to the negotiations with the FARC. The Commission’s mandate established 3 years for the collection of testimonies and the publication of a final report with recommendations for non-repetition. As the Covid-19 pandemic hampered the work of the Commission, the Constitutional Court extended its mandate until August 2022. On 28 June 2022, the Commission officially launched its eleven-volume final report. In this talk I will discuss the challenges and achievements of the Colombian Truth Commission, the progress made for the dissemination of the final report, as well as the future for reconciliation in Colombia based on the implementation of the Commission’s recommendations.
